Celebrating Media Literacy Week with IC4ML

What a busy day/week this is!

Monday, October 26, 2026 is Canadian School Library Day.

Monday, October 26, 2026 is also the day for municipal elections in Ontario.

We held our Student Vote (thank you CIVIX!) on Friday, because I knew it was going to be a hectic day on Monday. The students who volunteered to play specific roles (poll clerks, scrutineers, and deputy returning officers) enjoyed their time and were equally surprised and delighted to hear that adults get paid to do the same jobs on election day. When students are involved in making media experiences like this, their understanding grows.

This entire week is also Media Literacy Week.

AML, the Association for Media Literacy, often recognizes this event with a special newsletter.

This was the 2025 one.

This was the 2024 one.

This was the 2023 one.

This was the 2022 one.

For 2026, AML celebrated Media Literacy Week with IC4ML, the International Council for Media Literacy.

To prepare for its 75th anniversary, IC4ML is hosting a series of Global Curated Conversations. The very first one is in Toronto, on Monday, October 26, 2026!

I waited until late on Monday to make this blog live, so that I could add some photos from the event.

The best part of the day was conversing with the high school students from Michelle Solomon's Media classes. They were articulate, thoughtful, and passionate. I'm too tired to type any more right now. I'm just about to host a guest speaker talk for my AQ.

Happy Media Literacy Week!
Happy Canadian School Libraries Day!
